Things to do

Walking:
Explore the spectacular chalk downlands and Ridgeway, sample the views from the White Horse and Adam’s Grave at Alton Barnes, the serene beauty of the Kennet and Avon canal and the wilds of Salisbury Plain. (4 miles)

A number of national and local cycle routes pass close by. The Wiltshire Cycleway threads its way through Wiltshire along quiet country lanes and passes many of the county’s most attractive places to visit. The 160 mile cycle route is supplemented by a network of shorter loops offering a wide choice of distance and terrain. A great off-road cycling route is to follow along the Kennet & Avon Canal tow path. On this route you will pass the Crofton Beam Engines, Caen Hill locks, Pewsey Wharf and the historic towns of Bradford on Avon and Devizes.

Boating:
Hire a boat for the day from nearby Honeystreet on the beautiful Kennet and Avon Canal and take an idyllic retreat in the wonderful rural Wiltshire countryside of the Pewsey Vale. Stretching from Reading to Bristol, this waterway is renowned as one of the most beautiful locations for a canal boat holiday, boasting stunning views, tranquil settings and an abundance of wonderful wildlife. (4 miles)

Widdington Farm is a picturesque farm set into the Wiltshire countryside neighbouring the extensive Salisbury plains. Widdington Farm, run by Jeremy, has a long history of game shooting but opened its doors to its new clay shooting ground, namely The Shooting Club in June 2005. The Shooting Club has since gone from strength to strength and is now a premier ground offering a wide scope of clay shooting to the public ranging from total beginners wanting to experience their first clay to expert shots wishing to stay at the top of their game. The Shooting Club also offers simulated game days for competent shots wanting to experience the next best thing to a game day out of season, or for those wishing to get their eye in for the season or simply just for fun! The Shooting Club boasts a state of the art clubhouse and provides snacks, drinks and light meals throughout the day. You don’t have to be a member to shoot at The Shooting Club, everyone is welcome so we look forward to seeing you for practice or one of our registered competition shoots throughout the year. The airfield was first used before the First World War, initially for balloon operations. Aircraft were flown by the Royal Flying Corps, also before the First World War. The RFC became the Royal Air Force in 1918. In the Second World War the airfield was RAF Netheravon and was home to 296 and 297 squadrons. The airfield is claimed to be the longest continuously operated airfield in the world and is now operated by 7 Regt AAC (V) of the Army Air Corps as AAC Netheravon. The camp is also used as a parachute centre, on weekdays for the Joint Service Parachute Centre (JSPC) and at the weekends for the Army Parachute Association (APA). (8 Miles)

Paragliding is a thrilling, fair weather sport; nearest thing to flying like a bird. Cloudbase is a small, friendly UK school based in the beautiful Wiltshire Downs just half an hour from the M4 motorway. When the weather is suitable for flying we’ll be out flying! (3 miles)
